Mind and Body Therapies is an integrative approach to working with mental health that recognises the physiological dimension of emotions, thought processes, and feelings and the connection between the mind and body. It holistically addresses underlying factors rather than just treat symptoms. This allows for deep work and lasting change.
It integrates talking therapies with evidence-proven somatic processes. These practices include mindfulness, breathwork, yoga, somatic movement, biofeedback, and poly-informed somatic processes.
Studies have found these can help:
They can help you physically gain/regain balance and control over how things affect so that you can become more confident, capable and hopeful as you move forward living the life you want.
Together we can explore practices that meet your needs and preferences.
Wherever you are today, is exactly where we will start. It's okay to be unsure, new or experienced with these processes. I can help you connect and better understand your full embodied experience and work with it in a safe way to help you heal and live more happily.
Walk and Talk Therapy
Taking therapy outside is becoming increasingly popular. Professional counsellors like myself can offer 1:1 nature-based therapy to make it more comfortable while enjoying the natural benefits of movement and being in nature.
Our nature-based therapy can also include embodying mindfulness practices, meditation, or yoga in beautiful natural settings where you may find it easier to be present, grounded, learn these techniques, and incorporate them into your life beyond the therapy session. Nature-based therapy also offers new therapeutic techniques better suited to some people.
Research, including my own, shows nature-based therapy can be better for those who find the conventional counselling setting awkward and uncomfortable, feel stuck in therapy, or have had bad experiences of therapy. Being outdoors has natural benefits such as reducing anxiety, increasing creativity, and calming the nervous system.
Outdoor therapy is appropriate for everyone, and it can help with anything indoor therapy can.
